The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority has come up with a Special Recommendation regarding the constant presence of two people in the cockpit during all flights. The authority maintains this is actually a recommendation rather than a requirement. They add the recommendation has actually been in place for a while and is already being applied by Greek companies.

According to the recommendation, whenever one of the two pilots leaves the cockpit, another crew member should take his/her place.

Meanwhile, panic gripped the hotel at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos airport early on Friday morning, after a 19-year-old stabbed his mother repeatedly with a knife.

The youth who had a history of mental problems, began stabbing his mother in front of his 9-year brother. Reportedly, hotel staff heard the woman shouting and rushed into the room to her rescue.

The 37-year-old woman was taken to hospital where doctors are still trying to save her life. The Greek social services have taken care of the younger child.

The family had come from Russia to visit the 5th International Fur Fair in Athens held at the METROPOLITAN EXPO Event Centre near the airport buildings.
