The statement of the Greek prime minister for a referendum on July 5 provoked anxiety among citizens, which quickly translated into queues in front of banks.

Shortly after midnight as well as this morning many people rushed to ATMs to withdraw money.

The fact that even the ATMs in the parliament building were emptied is a tell-tale sign.

Plenty of ATMs remained cashless

Petrol stations are also experiencing long lines of motorists rushing in to fill up their tanks.

This happened in many areas of Attica.

As reported by local media, queuing at ATMs is taking place in other Greek cities as well.

Queues at ATMs in Patras as well

Shortly after  midnight, when Alexis Tsipras announced his decision to call a referendum, many Patras residents began to haunt the city’s ATMs.

Since yesterday afternoon, however, wrote termpo24.gr, many retirees queued at ATMs expecting their pensions to be wired to their accounts.

The police is afoot because of the crowds in front of ATMs. Egio is experiencing a similar situation.
