The new Minister of Finance Vassilis Rapanos, who has not yet been sworn in has been emergently hospitalized.

The situation with the new cabinet does not look good – first, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has had to go to hospital for an eye surgery a day after he took over the post and then, the Minister of Finance fainted just hours before officially taking up his new post. According to information provided to the media, the financial expert will stay in Igeia hospital in Athens for tests this weekend.

It is not yet known what caused the incident, but due to the unexpected coincidence, his taking oath will be postponed to next week. The presidency of the republic announced that the oath of ministers scheduled for 7:30 pm will involve only the Deputy Ministers of Finance George Mavroganis and Dimitris Kourkoulyas.

Currently, Vassilis Rapanos is under the supervision of doctor Kosmidis, but according to sources, Rapanos had a fever earlier in the day while he was in his office at the National Bank of Greece.

The doctors are expected to make an official statement on the condition of the financier by the end of the day.
