Real negotiations are just starting for Tsipras

"The real negotiations that will be the basis for assessing the government are just starting," Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stated in a speech to the members of SYRIZA parliamentary group.

"We will continue to work until the end with composure, calmness and determination in order to reach a solution, not just an agreement," he said, standing firmly behind the way in which his government is involved in the negotiations with creditors. "Who will pay taxes in this country is the government’s competence," said Tsipras commenting on the budgetary measures proposed by the cabinet and rejected by the creditors. Immediately afterwards, he said that "the oligarchy, not the employees and pensioners" should pay the price for the crisis.

In his speech, he was highly critical of the International Monetary Fund, which in his words has criminal responsibility for the situation in Greece. "The institutions should share the responsibility because the current situation in Greece is to blame on the dominant positions of the International Monetary Fund. The result of all this is coming to proposals that do not follow the logic of common sense but are rather deepening the recession. So ultimately, they want us to accept an agreement that will drag into a vortex of recession and uncertainty the economy that is ready to find its feet," Alexis Tsipras told MPs of SYRIZA.

Then he added, "If the goal is to continue the programme of the International Monetary Fund that has proved to be unsuccessful, as is well known, then the Greek cabinet will have no choice. We are obliged not to bow to pressure and blackmailing. The time has come for our partners to speak clearly. Do they want the International Monetary Fund with its unsuccessful formulas to be part of the agreement? In addition, how is it possible to accept its tough measures but not its proposals to write off the debt? The International Monetary Fund has criminal responsibility for Greece’s current situation. The time has come for Europe to assess its proposals."

"The struggle for a political change was our duty," said the Greek Prime Minister. "The order by the Greek people is a clear order to stop the policy of austerity after five years of implementation. We are obliged to work for an agreement that will not burden salaried employees and pensioners, and will distribute the burden among those who have not paid their share for the country to emerge from the crisis. An agreement that will not prolong the uncertainty but will finally put an end to the discussions about the notorious Grexit."

After the speech of the Greek Prime Minister before MPs of SYRIZA, comments flooded the social networks as well as photos of Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis who was listening to Tsipras sitting on the floor of the plenary hall.
