The new package of measures that must be approved by the government and the parliament within the next ten days, imposes a change of the Greek economy and society.
As provided in the contract within this period all actions required by the Troika must be completed in order for the new loan agreement to be implemented.
On this occasion, Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos has started a marathon of negotiations with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and his Italian colleague Mario Monti.
Thus on Monday the parliament must urgently vote on the bill, including the reduction of salaries, basic and supplementary pensions, as was decided at a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
A second bill will also be introduced, again an urgent one, related to unresolved issues in the field of healthcare, the new regulations on drugs and restructuring and integration of supplementary pension funds.
Furthermore, it is also possible, if necessary, for the Council of Ministers to arrange through a legislative act, unresolved questions about the PSI programme at its meeting on Tuesday.
According to schedule, on 8th March the public offer to exchange bonds is expected to be announced, and 11th March it can be implemented.
At the meeting optimism was expressed regarding the approval of the new economic programme on the meeting of Εurogroup on Monday.
According to the spokesman of the Cabinet, the Prime Minister has emphasized that European leaders have a positive attitude towards granting the loan for development, following a decision of Εurogroup and the completion of the PSI programme.
It seems that the Education Minister Anna Diamantopoulou has expressed her disagreement with the agreed cuts, emphasizing that the initial proposal of the Minister of Labour George Kutrumanis for an average reduction of supplementary pensions by 15% would be more beneficial to the funds. Nevertheless, she has stated that she will uphold the decision of the Cabinet.
The bill of the Ministry of Environment about the old Athens airport also caused extensive discussion. "We are talking about a large development project", said Pandelis Kapsis.
The bill provides for one third of the 6,200 acres to be turned into green areas, one third of it to be built on, and the remaining third to remain free.
At the meeting of the council of ministers the course of the "Helios" programme was also discussed, as well as the opportunities for development, it has to offer.
As for the parties, the economic reforms that the Greek state has to undertake lead to a fundamental change in the political situation in the country. According to recent surveys, the number of parties that will enter in the next Parliament are nine.
In particular, according to a survey by the pollster MARC, the parties in the next parliament will be eight, and New Democracy is the first with a serious advantage over PASOK, which remains in third position after the Democratic Leftist party.
According to voting attitudes New Democracy will win 24% of the votes, the Democratic Leftist party 15.2%, PASOK 13.9%, KKE Communist Party 11.9%, the left coalition SYRIZA 10.7%, the far-right party LAOS 6.9%, Ecologists-Greens 3.3%, the Democratic Alliance of Dora Bakoyannis 3.2%, the far-right group "Golden Dawn" 2.8 percent and the Movement "Arma politon" 1.7%.
If the elections were to take place today, New Democracy would receive 117 seats in the Parliament, the Democratic Left 43 seats, PASOK 39, KKE 34, SYRIZA 30, LAOS 19 and 9 seats for both the Ecologists-Greens and the Democratic Alliance.
62.9% of the voters would want a government of cooperation to be made up after the elections. 51.5% of the respondents want the elections to be held in April.
Many people expressed their anger and disappointment with the vote in the parliament on the new loan programme. Furthermore over 60% of the people consider the actions of the political leaders for exclusion of the MPs who voted "against" the new measures on Sunday to be wrong.
According to a survey by the pollster ALCO, the parties in the next parliament will be nine. According to the dispositions to voter New Democracy will win 24% of the votes, and the Democratic Leftist party - 11.5%. The third place will be shared by PASOK and KKE with 11%, followed by SYRIZA with 8%, LAOS with 5% and the Ecologists-Greens "Golden Dawn" with 3.5 percent and the Democratic Alliance with 3%.
According to the results of the agency, New Democracy would receive 129-133 seats in the Parliament, PASOK 44-47 seats, Democratic Left 32-34, KKE 29-32, SYRIZA 23-25, LAOS 16-19, Environmentalists Green 9-10, and the seats of the Democratic Alliance and the "Golden Dawn" are believed to be from 0 to 9.
20% of respondents said they would support a party led by Lucas Papademos, and 63% believe the exclusion of the MPs who voted "against" the new loan agreement to be a mistake.
And according to a study conducted by the agency MRB, the two large parties will lose the support of their constituents after voting in the parliament on the new loan agreement. So New Democracy will receive only 19% of the votes and PASOK 8.2%.
Meanwhile, 78.7% of respondents believe that the conditions on the political scene now favour the creation of new parties and 95.1 percent said they were pessimistic about the future of the country.
