The number of the bodies of immigrants, found on the costs of Aegean Sea reached 17. Since the New Years Eve the sea started to cast the bodies of young people who wished to pass the border of Greece illegally. Currently their number is still growing.

12 young men, four women and one child are the victims until now. East from the costs of Alexandroupoli a costal services boat found the dead body of a child around nine years old. Yesterday costal security guards found another three bodies – two of them on the costs of Apalos and on in Makri.

The authorities believe that they are all related to the same tragic accident caused by the attempt of the victims to pass illegally the borders of the country in the region of Alexandroupol – Samothrace island – Thasos island.

The circumstances under which the accident happened are still unknown. It is supposed that the young people drowned due to strong winds in the area. Most probably they were in a boat which turned around and sunk. The first bodies were found around Alexandroupoli by accident by passers. Since the beginning of the week up to now on the cost of Evros and the Rhodopes the sea cast two other bodies.

Investigation is carried out by land and water.
