The fire brigade informs of large fires that have broken out near Galataki, Corinthia area and Malesina. In Galataki, 36 fire engines, 75 firefighters and 35 foot soldiers are fighting against the blaze. Late last night the fire was relatively under control but during the day, three houses were in flames and one firefighter was taken to hospital due to breathing problems. The fire in Malesina is still out of control and 26 fire engines, 60 firefighters and 45 foot soldiers are fighting it.
The Greek Civil Protection warns of high risk of fires today in the Attica and Thessaly areas, the Peloponnese and Halkidiki, the Cycladic and north Aegean islands. The service appeals to the public to avoid outdoor activities that could inadvertently cause fires, including the burning of dry grass or dry branches, the use of spark-producing equipment, and disposal of lit cigarettes.
