Both Roma from Katerini, at whose house the authorities had discovered a baby who is not their biological child, have been sent to detention after their testimony before the investigator.
According to sources, the man, aged 59, and his wife, aged 58, had firmly stated that a 41-year-old Roma woman from Farsala, who is in Korydallos prison in connection with the case of blond Maria, had given the little girl to them. They told the authorities that they had received the child last August, with a promise of legal adoption.
According to the couple, Maria’s supposed "mother" had told them that the biological mother of the child, a Roma woman from Bulgaria, had abandoned the baby.
According to the pre-trial file, the Roma couple had managed to obtain a birth certificate for the baby from the municipality of Athens. Then, the 58-year-old woman tried to register the child in the municipality of Katerini twice, but failed. She and her husband told the investigator that they had not obtained the birth certificate in person but received it at their home by post.
The child found at their house is still in the hospital in Katerini in excellent health.
