An explosion broke out at 3:50 am today at "La Scala" restaurant that is located at the intersection of 15 "Kiprou" Street and "Kolokotroni" Street in the northern Athens neighbourhood of Nea Eritrea.
It caused serious damage to the restaurant as well as to neighbouring buildings and cars that were parked nearby.
An explosion at the same place on 15 May 2014 had almost completely destroyed the restaurant and a warehouse.
The building, which houses the restaurant, belongs to Yiannis Sbokos’ sister whose house is on the first floor of the same building. Yiannis Sbokos was Secretary General for Armaments during the term of Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos and he is convicted in the relevant corruption scandal. It should be noted that Yiannis Sbokos’ house was the target of a bomb attack on 17 April 2014, for which no one has assumed responsibility. On that occassion unknown persons had poured gasoline on the car of Yiannis Sbokos’ son on 30 June 2010 and set fire to it.
The security directorate in Athens has launched an investigation into the case.
