Five men with hoods on their heads broke in the office of the Deputy Minister of Justice Apostolos Katsifaras and attacked his secretary and another colleague of theirs. At the time of the assault Mr. Katsifaras was in a conference, while at his office in Exarchy neighborhood was his secretary and the driver of minister Katsifaras’ uncle – Geogeous Katsifaras, who is a former minister. After the five men with the hoods broke into the office, they started hitting the two men – the secretary and his colleague and then they started breaking everything that stands in front of them.
The vandals were armed with hammers, levers and other objects. The two men who became victims of their assault have injuries on their heads and bodies.
While in the office the five men were running around, there were another ten people waiting for them in front of the building who had also covered their faces with cloths and hoods. After the assault the gang ran away in the little streets in the area. According to a witness there were two girls among the aggressors who had also covered their faces with cloths and who were holding hammers in their hands.
At the place of the assault came policemen who started questioning witnesses about what happened. The two employees who were hurt during the assault were taken to hospital where the necessary medical examinations were made and according to the doctors their condition is not serious.
Prime Minister George Papandreou wished them fast recovery and said that he condemns every act of violence like this one. Deputy minister of justice said that the known “strangers” are blackmailing the democracy. “However democracy does not give in to blackmailing nor can it be terrorized or murdered” added Mr. Katsifaras.
His office was previously attacked in November last year when strange men placed two cans of flammable liquid in front of the front door and lit them, which caused material damages to the building.
This morning a telephone call for a bomb placed in the building of the court of appeal shocked the nation again. At 9:03 this morning a strange man called the emergency response center and said that in half an hour two bombs will explode at the court of appeal.
The people in the building were evacuated right away and the traffic on the surrounding boulevards was stopped. There are squads for deactivation of explosives who are searching the building as the time for setting of the mechanism which was announced by the stranger already passed.
