A severe crash near Thessaloniki took the lives of two women

A severe crash between an intercity bus and a truck with a Turkish registration plate took the lives of two women and injured another 20 people. According to the transport police, the bus had hit the back of the truck which had stopped in the right lane of the Athens-Thessaloniki highway in the direction of Thessaloniki, three kilometres away from Malgara toll station.


    So far, the two victims have not been identified. All 20 injured persons are currently in hospitals in Thessaloniki, the condition of the bus driver being the most serious. The truck driver was apprehended by the police. The highway to Thessaloniki remained closed for hours and now there are long queues of cars along it.
    The rescue operation of the passengers involved eight ambulances.
