190 passengers on the "Prevelis" ferry were terrified early in the morning when the ship ran aground at 3:30 a.m. near Aspronisi Island near Santorini.
"Prevelis" departed at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night on the route Piraeus - Milos - Santorini - Anafi - Heraklion - Sitia - Kassos - Karpathos - Diafani - Chalki - Rhodes.
The ship was rescued from its grounding after the inspection carried out by divers with the efforts of the crew.
According to ANEK LINES' manager Stavros Angelidakis who spoke on the morning show on Skai TV, the 190 passengers were out of danger and the ferry departed to Santorini.
As a precaution, passengers, including young children, were made to put on inflatable life jackets and go out on the deck. The health centre of Santorini and the municipality are ready for action.
Scuba divers have found no fault which could have led to the influx of water.
The ship will be checked again on Santorini by special controllers of merchant ships after which it will be decided whether it will continue on its route or if passengers will travel by another ship.
