Unknown persons fired a Kalashnikov gun at the building of the Israeli Embassy in Athens at about 3:00 am today. The police have announced that they have found 54 cartridges from a 7.62 mm Kalashnikov gun at the site of the attack. According to initial information, the four attackers had arrived on two motorcycles at a distance of 30-40 metres from the building, fired at it and fled in an unknown direction.
The Embassy of Israel is one of the most guarded buildings in Athens. It is located on the central Kifissias Avenue in the area of the diplomatic suburb "Psychico".
The police believe that the security cameras have recorded the actions of the terrorists and a specialized laboratory of the anti-terrorism service is currently analyzing the video.
Security experts note that today's attack is very similar to the attack on the residence of the German ambassador in Athens that had taken place in December 2013 when the responsibility for the attack was assumed by the organization "Group of People’s Fighters".

It is expected that Minister of Public Order Vassilis Kikilias will visit any moment the Embassy of Israel in Athens. The area is closed off by numerous police forces, the circulation of vehicles on Kifissias Avenue is hampered and there is a huge traffic jam.

     To be continued.
