Unknown persons shot at a café owned by an Albanian citizen in the central Omonia Square in Athens at about 04:00 am today. The police report states that two persons had approached the café in a jeep with tinted glass, where there were 7 visitors in the early hours. When the car stopped, fire was opened, probably with a "Kalashnikov" gun.
The shooting fatally wounded a Greek citizen who was on the sidewalk near the café door. A woman who was close to him was injured too. She is now at the state hospital in Nikea and her life is out of danger. The perpetrators fled the scene at high speed after the shooting.
The initial police estimates indicate that the case is about settling accounts between criminal groups. There will be more details after the identification of the dead man who is believed to have been the target of the shooting.
Electronic site iefimerida.gr reports that the killed man was 43 years old, worked at Athens Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" and was the father of two children.
