Two men had opened fire with Kalashnikov guns at DIAS policemen. The incident happened near the building of the general directorate of the Greek police on Alexandras Avenue. The policemen wanted to check a car parked on one of the small streets in the area. When the officers approached the car, two of the passengers got out of it with Kalashnikov guns in their hands and started shooting. Fortunately, they missed. The driver had probably remained in the car and helped them escape.
A little later the car was found abandoned on a neighbouring street in Ambelokipi neighbourhood. No weapons were found in it as, apparently, the perpetrators had taken the guns with them. A check shows that the car belongs to a foreigner who had not informed the police about the theft and who will be questioned by an investigator.
The police are currently searching all the houses around the place where the car was abandoned. Their colleagues, the object of the attack, have provided them with a description of the perpetrators. The prosecutor has issued an arrest warrant for all suspects. The police are questioning the residents of the neighbourhood as well as the owners of shops and kiosks for possible traces of the runaways.
