A plan for Greece's exit from the Eurozone featuring curious lobbyists from the United States, as well as local operators, is revealed in a file located at the office of magistrate Dimitris Foukas who is investigating the case. The revelations about the activities of agents observed by the intelligence services of at least three countries, are many. According to To Vima newspaper, the plan to exit the Eurozone also involves a Latin American mine owner who has visited Greece.
The whole plan entitled "Silver Drachma" includes a scheme for printing drachma banknotes and producing silver-coated currency, which would then be taken over by businessmen, with those involved locally receiving millions of euros on the plans' success.
The plan was probably prepared after the 2012 elections and never took place because of the efforts of the government. The lifting of secrecy concerning phone calls, as well as numerous documents, has also contributed to the disclosure of the plan. Investigators did not specify how lobbyists and others who had access to information and documents related to national sovereignty, acted undisturbed. Amongst those involved is the man who drew a personal line in foreign policy at a critical moment for Greece.
The investigator is expected to ask that the case be divided into three parts.
Wiretapping
The first part concerns the wiretapping of the then Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis and his ministers. One of those involved is William B. who is accused of espionage. The investigation showed that along with him two other CIA agents will be indicated as also having been involved in the wiretapping.
William B. was due to appear before the investigator in person or via his lawyer during the summer. Reportedly, however, his superiors in the United States (he is retired and lives in Detroit) were against his testifying in Greece, consequently he did not travel to Greece this year and visit his native island. According to court sources, if he does not appear by next week, an international arrest warrant will be issued.
It has been shown that illegal software produced by Vodafone did not need the physical presence of employees in its installation.
The plans of the agents
The second part concerns the activities of a network of agents in the promotion of companies from specific countries in buying attractive state-owned property. One of those involved has been cooperating with the investigation. He disclosed that a senior government official lobbied for a particular company in a competition for millions of euros. Finally, irrespective of the pressure, the project was won by a Greek company. The person involved, A.R., told the investigator that throughout the plan, a third country from the Balkans was involved in espionage, and revealed an entire network that is now under investigation.
The third part is the so-called "Pythia Plan"which, amongst other things, is said to have consisted of actions against former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis. In this case the names of the former MP Michalis Karhimakis and two officials of the National Intelligence Service have been raised. According to sources within the investigation, this concerns the leak of documents from the Service, not the further spread of secrets to other countries. It also indicates that the Kosovo groups that entered the country in 2008 and participated in the riots after the murder of Alexandros Grigoropoulos were then allowed to leave without hindrance.
Forthcoming searches
A large file containing thousands of pages will be completed in the next two months, and still searches lie ahead in the homes and offices of the persons who acted in Greece as employees of companies, and travelled around spying on civil services and the entire plan for granting concession of public assets to investors. According to reports, one of the pieces of evidence is a note by a senior government official involved in the affair, in which they explain why they support a particular company associated with a certain economic factor which has passed through Greece as well.
