In this way, the Papandreou family's ties to Crete will become even closer. A 28-year-old girl from the island stole the heart of George Papandreou’s son, who is going to Crete in order to settle the details of the engagement, which is scheduled for 25 January.

Young Andreas Papandreou has a relationship with 28-year-old Polina Patramani from Hersonissos, the Heraklion region. The couple met via mutual friends in May 2010. Their relationship became official last October, after about a year and a half. They informed families and friends about their relations, and Polina has published a phicture on Facebook of the two embracing each other against the background of the illuminated Acropolis.

The next step

Officially, their relationship began on 3 October 2013. They soon realised that they had more in common than they imagined and decided to take the next step.

As expected, the relationship of Andreas Papandreou with beautiful Polina is the most discussed topic in the Hersonissos region.

Mayor of Hersonissos Zacharias Doksastakis, who is a family friend of the girl, confirmed the information about the engagement next Saturday. "We are all excited about the engagement here. Everybody is sending the couple their warmest wishes," he told Ethnos newspaper.

Cretan ‘madinadi’

Many islanders consider an honour the fact that one of their fellow-citizens stole the heart of the son of former Prime Minister, and have dedicated various ‘madinadi’ (traditional Cretan folk songs) to the couple, in order to wish them all the best in the future.

The festive lunch on the occasion of the engagement will take place in a tavern in Hersonissos among close family and friends. The couple has arranged everything and does not want much fuss about it. Both families have limited the number of guests to 30.

Andreas Papandreou is the son of the former prime minister from his first marriage to Eva Georgiou. After graduating from the American College he studied finances in Boston as well as sociology in Sweden. He also studied international relations at the University of Kent and graduated with a Master’s Degree from the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania.

Polina Patramani is a volleyball player and has been working at the hotel chain Aldemar Hotels & Spa in Anissaras, Hersonissos since 2005. She has played for the ‘Niki’ volleyball team from Marousi, for Hersonissos, as well as for GAS MESSARA.
