The Court of Appeal in Athens decided to send to prison spokesman of Golden Dawn and member of parliament Ilias Kasidiaris. Other members of the Greek neo-Nazi party and its leader Nikos Michaloliakos have been in prison for months. Last October the court decided to release Kasidiaris on bail in connection with the main charge against him and his colleagues, namely involvement in, and leadership of, a criminal organization. Later, however, he was charged with illegal storage of weapons in order to supply a criminal organization, for which the investigator and the prosecutor decided today that they had enough evidence to imprison him.
The decision of the prosecutor and the investigator describes Kasidiaris as dangerous and able to commit new crimes because of his unrestrained temper, referring to the case when he punched in the face Communist deputy Liana Kaneli during the morning broadcast of Antenna TV and his threat to a policeman on the island of Crete that "There will be dead".
His hearing in the Court of Appeal took place under draconian security measures, as about one hundred supporters of Golden Dawn had gathered in front of the building chanting, "Fools, informers, criminals."
