The newly established "To potami" formation is the fourth political force as shown by the results of the first poll of the political attitudes in Greece conducted after the press conference of its leader Stavros Theodorakis.

The new party that will participate in the European elections is supported by 5.7% of the respondents in the poll conducted by Alco agency. It seems that the majority of the citizens who state that they would vote for it are mainly former supporters of PASOK and Democratic Left.

The results also show that the emergence of "To potami" on the political scene has contributed towards reducing the difference between the two major players, namely the ruling New Democracy and the radical left SYRIZA party. Also impressive is the fact that the new party has resulted in a reduction in the support for Independent Greeks, which is quite to the right in the political spectrum.

In particular, 20.9% of respondents indicate that they would vote for SYRIZA in the upcoming European elections, 20% for New Democracy, 6.9% for Golden Dawn, 5.7% for To potami, 5.2% will support the Communist Party of Greece, 4% Independent Greeks, 3.8% PASOK and 2.8% would vote for Democratic Left.

The analysis of the results and the comparison with the previous poll conducted by the same agency make it clear that "To potami" has significantly stirred up the voter support for Democratic Left and Independent Greeks. The new formation has deprived the first of 12.8% of the support for it and the latter of 12.1%. 8.1% of those who support "To potami" are former PASOK voters and 7.7% former supporters of SYRIZA. New Democracy has incurred slight losses of 1.9% and the Communist Party of Greece 1.1%.

It is worth noting that none of the supporters of Golden Dawn has given up the extremist party in favour of "To potami".

Indicative of how the Greeks perceive the role of the European Union and its bodies is their answer to the question related to their motivation to vote in the European elections.

61% of respondents reply that the leading criterion will be Greece’s domestic problems and only 19% indicate issues that affect Europe as a whole. At the same time, 43% will express their dissatisfaction with the actions of the government by their vote and 29% their support for it.

The poll was conducted by Alco agency among 1,000 participants from all over Greece on behalf of NewsIt website.
