Successful start of the economic police, boom of detected crimes in July

Only within 30 hours after opening the telephone line of the economic department of the Greek police 116, citizens made complaints about fraud, most of them for not providing receipts.

70 complaints were made by residents of Attica, 15 were from Thessaloniki, two from Volos, two from Kalamata, and other major urban centers. Some citizens alarmed about the functioning of sites with banned slots, and three others for poor medical treatment. About 70 citizens from filed complaints have submitted their personal data to the authorities. Economic police officer said he expects about 70-80 complaints per day. "This means that we will have more than 20,000 complaints annually. We collect the information and then conduct targeted inspections in various areas of the country. "

The new economic police will intensify its cooperation with judicial authorities, which provide it with folders of financial fraud cases. Thus, the financial police will deal with the case of public financing of dozens of NGOs worth 100 million euros, with which already engaged is the State Administration Inspectorate.

Increasingly successful cases has the anti-electronic crime service with the help of which police apprehended a 37-year-old man charged with child pornography. As part of the same case the police are searching for a professional photographer from abroad. The two accomplices are accused of taking pictures of a 16-year-old girl in naked poses and then posted them in a few pages on the Internet, and on some of them they even wrote her name.

The complaint was filed by the father of the victim who stated that the administrators of a website connected with his daughter and managed to take pictures of her by taking advantage of her young age. The 37-year-old man contacted the girl first and managed to convince her to go along with the photographer at a hotel near the sea, where they did the photo session. Officers from the anti-crime division were able to find the email address of the man and caught him.

The past month of July was particularly "productive" for the district police station in Attica. According to data captured were 2,948 people, two murder cases were solved, 37 robberies and 181 thefts. Police officers in Athens managed to find 21 criminal groups, confiscated large quantities of drugs and weapons, counterfeit money, music CDs and DVD, illegal cigarettes, ancient objects and devices for illegal gambling and found 408 stolen vehicles.

In particular, police seized more than five kilograms of cannabis, almost the same amount of heroin, approximately two kilograms of cocaine, 3,987 drug tablets, 544 gr. of methadone, 6 cannabis plants, 11 scales, 30 pistols, 46 knives, 9 iron bars, 7 shotguns , 4 military rifles, 587 cartridges, 4 hand grenades, three air rifles, 275 balls, 42 vehicles, 185 gaming machines and computers, around 30,858 euros, 2,000 BGN, 32 USD, 6,590 counterfeit banknotes of different denominations, 143 false documents, 127 mobile phones, 1751 packs of cigarettes and two ancient objects.

Last month, particularly effective were also police authorities in Peloponnese. They arrested 432 people, most of whom were charged under the Aliens Act, for theft and drug dealing.

Meanwhile police have frayed dozens of cases of thefts and burglaries of commercial premises and vehicles as well as cases of murder and forgery of documents and banknotes. They found criminal groups engaged in illicit trade of cigarettes, illegal transportation of fuels and group that kidnapped a woman. During the same period found on Peloponnese were 42 stolen cars out of 94.
