The Greek police had cordoned off the main Akadimias Street in the centre of Athens having received information on the presence of a suspicious object outside the state legal council building. According to the initial data, it was a suitcase left on the sidewalk outside the building.
Members of the explosive dismantling unit had immediately arrived on the scene to establish whether the suitcase was hiding an explosive mechanism. For over an hour they carried out two controlled explosions and inspected the region around the building without finding anything suspicious.
Shortly after 10 o'clock in the morning, the traffic in the centre of Athens was restored.
