SYRIZA hid the memorandum from parliament but Samaras circulated it to the media

"Not only has the government not broken the memorandum, but it has also signed it," New Democracy leader and former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras stressed in an extensive statement that he delivered earlier today. At the same time, he submitted to the media the full text of the Eurogroup decision on Greece of 20 February and stated that the purpose of his action is for "all Greeks to learn the truth."

"The agreement signed by the government is an amendment to the basic agreement and its purpose is to extend it by four months. We did the same earlier in order to obtain a two months’ delay. Not only has the government not broken the memorandum, but it has also signed it," said the leader of New Democracy.

According to Antonis Samaras, the fact that the memorandum is in effect is evidenced by the supervisory Troika and by the communiqués of the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund. "Both texts are identical and they contain the same terms," said Samaras.

The submission of the agreement signed by Yanis Varoufakis by the opposition leader provoked the categorical refusal of Alexis Tsipras’ government to present the document to the Greek parliament. Initially, the radical left and its far-right partner had claimed that a discussion on the agreement would take place in parliament but without holding a vote on it. Then they had simply refused to submit the document to parliament.

At the same time, all ministers are constantly repeating that the agreement is not an extension of the bailout programme and that the representatives of creditors, "the supervisory Troika", were "renamed" "the institutions".

"We urge the government to cease communication games, creative obscurity (Yanis Varoufakis’ expression that describes the policy applied by the government - author’s note) and lies, to stop dawdling and lingering, and to urgently implement the measures it has signed. The real economy is collapsing more and more each passing day. The bill that society will pay is constantly increasing," said Antonis Samaras.

He made his statement today at a time when the government is trying to solve the difficult task on the reforms that it will undertake. On the one hand, they must be sufficiently convincing to the creditors of Greece and on the other, acceptable for the representatives of SYRIZA and Independent Greeks, who insist on Athens taking a collision course with Brussels. Finally yet importantly, the speech of Samaras followed the "mysterious" statement of Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis in Crete, in which he urged Greeks to continue their support after the collision.

Meanwhile, representatives of the real economy have already warned that it is just a matter of time for many goods to disappear from the shelves of Greek shops. Chairman of the General Confederation of Craftsmen and Merchants in Greece George Kavathas said that foreign suppliers of primary and raw materials are refusing to supply them to Greek companies.
