Under the slogan "A flight for democracy" Greek emigrants abroad are making appeals to use crowdfunding, which will enable them to make the journey to their native country and participate in the historic elections on 25 January.
As is known, voting in Greece is only possible on national territory. If Greeks living abroad wish to exercise their right to vote, they must return to their homeland.
As mentioned in the text of the appeal, the initiative came from 50 emigrants who study or work in low-paid jobs abroad. Fund-raising will hopefully cover the airfares to Greece for them and others.
The petition highlights the tragic consequences of the Memorandum for Greek society. It ends on the following note: "A government of the Left will stir things up in the rest of Europe, and will act as a catalyst for more votes against austerity. This movement can make Europe remember the forgotten principles of justice and democracy. Help us be part of this historic moment by becoming part of it, too. Please help our flight to democracy – a democracy-yet-to-come."
