The leader of the extreme left determined the outcome of the elections and the highest percentage won by popular vote, as a peaceful revolution. He stressed that the first thing he did on Monday was to seek the support of other leftist parties, in order to strengthen the position of SYRIZA. Tsipras did not fail to note that the results indicate a serious blow to the parties, which signed the Memorandum for financial assistance. He explained that this is the beginning of change not only in Greece but throughout Europe.
"Mrs. Merkel is obliged to acknowledge that her policy and economic cuts have failed" stated Tsipras adamantly. He said that those who have signed the contracts for financial assistance are now a minority and results show that the people have punished the misguiding policy with their votes. Finally Tsipras noted that a possible coalition between PASOK and New Democracy would be in violation of the constitutional rights of voters. Data of the Ministry of Internal Affairs show that SYRIZA has taken the first place in 11 electoral areas in Greece. These are Athens A’ and B’, B' Piraeus, Attica, Viotia, Achaia, Evia Thessaloniki A’, the Cycladic Islands, Xanthi and Chania.
