President of de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Mehmed Ali Talat stated that if a solution of the Cyprus matter is not found until next April, it would be preferable to stop negotiations until the “presidential elections” in the occupied area of the island.

Mr. Talat considers that stopping the dialog is necessary so that the problem would not be turned into political propaganda during the election period. Regarding the procedure of the negotiations, leader of de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus stated that topics about “Government and allocation of duties”, “Economics and European Union” have already been discussed and thirty documents have been prepared clarifying what are the common grounds and where the two parties’ interest differ.

Mehmed Ali Talat also informed the journalist, that in the nearest future the maters regarding “Guarantees – Security”, “Property” and “Territory” will also be discussed.
