The second day of the highly anticipated trial against Golden Dawn has begun in the courtroom of Korydallos prison before a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal. The trial was suspended on 20 April. Today's session is accompanied by demonstrations, reactions and information about more beaten people.

MPs Dimitris Koukoutsis, Michalis Arvanitis, Polivios Zisimopoulos and Efstathios Boukouras are present in the hall today, who are indicated as part of the leadership of the criminal group. The latter two had appeared on the first day of the trial too.

The court interrupted the session for a short while as one of the accused for the murder of Pavlos Fyssas, namely Ioannis-Vasilios Komnianos said that he was not represented by a lawyer and the court proceeded with the appointment of two public defenders. The procedure was interrupted in order to hand them their appointments.

Information on a beating in Korydallos prison

Meanwhile, an unidentified man was beaten this morning in the area of Korydallos prison. He was taken to hospital by ambulance but it is not yet clear who attacked him.

According to sources, the victim stated that the attackers thought he was a member of Golden Dawn and beat him for that reason. Other rumours however have it that they attacked him because they thought he was an anarchist.

Meanwhile, the court decided to postpone the trial against Golden Dawn for 12 May, rejecting at the same time the requests to transfer it to another courtroom.

In particular, court president Maria Lepenioti said in connection with the change of the courtroom, "We were called here to adjudge, we have no our own courtrooms. Once the political leadership informs us that there is a suitable room we will immediately move."

Therefore, until then, the trial will continue in the courtroom of the women's wing of Korydallos prison where other cases involving the accused in the trial against the terrorist group Fire Nuclei are considered as well.

In this situation, the legal proceedings were interrupted again and Maria Lepenioti asked the mayor of Korydallos to submit to her the schedule of the Pan-Hellenic student entrance examinations in order for the trial not to coincide with one of these days. However, she did not exclude that the process might continue Saturday, or after 02:00 pm, although that suggestion by the prosecutor caused a commotion in the room.
