Handmade device with a clock mechanism exploded early this morning in front of the home of European parliament member from New Democracy and former minister of education Marieta Yanakou. The explosion caused many windows from the building, as well as car windows to break. Nobody was hurt. Twenty minutes before the bomb exploded an unknown individual called the editor’s office of Eleftherotipia and ALTER TV and said: “In 20 minutes a bomb will explode on 10 Demerdzi street, in front of Marieta Yanakou. This is not a farce.”

Right away the police evacuated the building and isolated the area. Terrorism fight experts and dismantling experts are collecting fragments from the handmade device, which was placed in a bag. Police primary conclusions are that the attack was organized by “Conspiracy of the Fiery Nuclei”. “There is a lot of hate. These are young people, who hate the system. With their action today, they want to show that they can go until the end,” said Marieta Yanakou. The former minister of education provoked a wave of disproval among Greek students when she decided to legalize private universities in the country. After long student strikes she resigned and private universities are still illegal.

The bomb in front of Yanakou’s home put the police in high alert, because this happened a little bit more than 24 hours after the terrorist attack against the police station in Aghia Paraskevi in Athens, where six policemen are inured and two of them are in severe condition. “This is yet another terrorist attack, which called for outrage and judgment by all of us. This strengthens our determination to unite in a common fight against terrorism with patience and constant work, far away from microphones and cameras,” said New Democracy spokesman Georgios Koumoutzakos.
