In the afternoon of Monday 4 February, an envelope with a bullet and a note with threats against the life of Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras was delivered to the Ministry of Finance. "The envelope did not reach the Minister. The "Protocol Department" opened it and then handed it over to the authorities", sources from the Ministry of Finance told GRReporter. The anti-terrorist police department has undertaken the case and it is currently trying to identify the sender.
Kathimerini and Sky report that it was a nine-millimetre bullet and the envelope was sent from the island of Crete. Greek media note that tax offices in the regions of Rethymnon, Heraklion, Chania and Lasithi received similar envelopes last week.
