The Greek security forces are in a state of high alert due to the significant clues to the potential conduct of a terrorist attack against a "political target".

According to a publication in Ethnos newspaper, which is based on information from an official who is aware of the situation, "The concern is neither vague nor unreasonable". To the contrary, in his opinion the security services have been able to collect significant evidence and other information in relation to the probability of a terrorist attack being carried out very soon.
 
Other sources directly connect that possibility with the message of the police, namely that Nikos Maziotis, who is wanted for involvement in the terrorist group Revolutionary Struggle, is hiding behind the bank robbery in Methana this July. The authorities are concerned that the robbery was part of the preparation of a potential terrorist attack.

According to sources, during the robbery, one of the attackers had shouted to the customers that they were shooting a film and that they should not be afraid. The two robbers had been able to steal 110,000 euro and it was suspected from the beginning that terrorists had organized the whole campaign.

The anarchist and his girlfriend and mother of his child, Paula Roupa, were released and they were subjected to restrictive measures just before the trial against them because of the expiry of the statutory law of 18 months in custody. Since June 2012, the authorities have lost all of their tracks. During the subsequent trial Maziotis was sentenced to 50 years in prison for his involvement in the Revolutionary Struggle group.
 
The antiterrorists believe that Maziotis has formed around himself a new group which is robbing banks at present in order to finance future terrorist attacks. These intentions are clearly seen in the texts by the fugitive and his girlfriend Paula Roupa. According to police sources, their text about Golden Dawn, which was published a few days ago, informs of another terrorist attack.

According to the authorities Maziotis has been able to collect about 1.5 million euro through bank robberies, as reported by Ethnos. Several days after the attack in Methana, five people broke into a bank branch in Velestino and stole 317,420 euro. Then the authorities presented again the recording of security cameras, as they had discovered a connection between the two robberies and the existence of evidence that they had involved terrorists. The bank robbers in Velestino wore wigs and sunglasses, and the robbery in Methana involved four persons.

The anti-terrorist service believes that Nikos Maziotis is hiding behind three other bank robberies as well. The greatest loot so far has been the sum of half a million euro which the attackers had stolen from a bank on the island of Spetses.
