The futuristic projects of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and systems for renewable energy will be presented by the gurus of new technologies, who are gathering in Thessaloniki for the first Festival of Innovation "Thessaloniki: City of Future", which will be held between 10 and 16.

The festival will be held in cooperation with the Trade and Industrial Chamber of Thessaloniki and the Thessaloniki International Exhibition.

The newest products and applications from the field of technology such as discoveries of the Massachusetts Institute, bus stop that runs on solar energy, gadgets for saving energy and new ecological materials will be displayed between May 13 and 16 in stock D at Thessaloniki port.

A "Green House" will be built in the Mediterranean Cosmos mall and throughout the city doors will open to many "Innovation Cafes". The biggest event during the festival is the new digital world and will be held on May 13 at the Royal Theatre of Thessaloniki.

The "best paid British woman”, who was born in Thessaloniki, Elena Amvrosiadou, will be awarded at the event. Chemical engineer by training, she began her career at BP, where she became the youngest executive director in an international company at 27 years of age. Awarded at the festival will be also Nicholas Christakis, professor at Harvard University and author of the book "Connected", Nikos Tobazis and George Sakelaris from Ameresco.

Speaking at the event will be MIT SENSEable City Lab Director Carlo Ratti, who won the Time magazine award for the greatest discovery in 2007 for his project "Digital water”, which was displayed at the International Exhibition in Zaragoza. The invention shows how digital water runs on a pavilion wall. Giving lectures at the The Festival of Innovation will also be Portuguese Antonio Kamara, Irishman Rob Warren from Science Gallery and Jorge Perez from the European Institute of Design in Barcelona.

On May 14, fans of the technology can follow three very interesting lectures: "Internet as a jack in the development of trade and companies", “Social media: new ways of communication" and "MIT and Augmented Reality: a new reality is emerging in city, in everyday life and culture."
