Thessaloniki police detained two people, members of a criminal group involved in telephone fraud of seniors. They tried to dupe a 63-year-old Greek woman into paying them cash.
The two arrested are Bulgarians, 24 and 26 years old. Charges have been made against them and their accomplices for creating a criminal group and attempted fraud.
As the police investigation has established, an accomplice of the Bulgarians posing as a police officer telephoned the woman at her home. He claimed that her family member has caused a road accident. Therefore, the "policeman" demanded that the 63-year-old woman give him €2,000 to swing her relative's way out of accident-related charges."
The police immediately began an investigation. Yesterday evening, the two Bulgarians arrived in the Evosmos district to pick up the cash and were arrested.
The suspects will be charged by the Thessaloniki prosecution office. The police investigation continues in its attempt to get hold of the other group's accomplices, as well as to find other victims of their telephone scams.
