The Turkish authorities arrested three Turkish citizens on suspicion in military espionage in favor of Greece. According to the French news agency the arrests were made in Bodrum and Izmir by the Turkish police together with the special intelligence units. In a publication the Turkish newspaper “Huriet” claims that the surveillance of the three men has lasted more than a year and at the time of the arrest were found several cameras, binoculars, phone chips and photos of Turkish military bases.

The daily paper makes clear that the Turkish intelligence units have a suspect Greek spy, who is “under cover” behind his role of diplomat and works in the General council of Greece in Izmir. The Turkish intelligence believes that six months ago the Greek spy has contacted the three Turkish citizens and supposes that they received between 500 and 1000 Euro for the submission of any kind of information related to the positioning and organization of the Turkish military bases.

Under the threat that the Greek diplomat will be declared “persona non grata” by the Turkish authorities Greece immediately pulled out his employee back to Athens.
