A train collided with a car on the 11th kilometre of the Thessaloniki-Kilkis railway line. The crash happened near the town of Neohoruda in Oreokastro municipality in northern Greece. According to data from the road service, the 100 passengers on board were not injured but the three passengers in the car died immediately.
The incident occurred at 4:20 pm on Wednesday. The car tried to cross the railway crossing at the time when the train was speeding from Thessaloniki-Alexandroupolis. Because of the crash, the traffic on the railway line is currently stopped. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash. The management of the railway company OSE warns the drivers of motor vehicles and pedestrians that any attempt to cross the railway line at a time when the stop signal is on endangers not only their lives, but the safety of trains too.
