Traffic police every 20-30 kilometres during the holidays in Greece

The plan of the traffic police provides for enhanced measures for traffic security and prevention of accidents on the entire road network in Greece during the holidays.

The measures provide for the following:

- enhanced traffic police presence on roads, at a distance of 20-30 km, according to road conditions in each region,

- enhanced police presence in places where accidents occur frequently,

- traffic regulation by policemen on key intersections to avoid traffic jams,

- enhanced measures at the entrances and exits of large urban centres where there is heavy traffic,

- enhanced measures in places with concentrations of passengers - airports, ports, railway stations,

- enhanced measures in places where there will be festive events,

- police presence at highway toll stations,

- ban on the movement of trucks heavier than 1.5 tons.

In addition to these measures, today between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm a ban will be in force on the movement of trucks in certain sections of the highways Athens-Corinth-Patras, Athens-Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki-Kavala, Thessaloniki-Nea Moudania.

This ban will not apply to:

- roadside assistance heavy vehicles,

- vehicles of Greek Post and press distribution companies,

- vehicles transporting live animals, pasteurized milk, raw fish, meat and perishable products,

- water tanks, if intended for fighting forest fires,

- tanks carrying ready-mixed concrete,

- trucks transporting animal by-products, if they have permission from the veterinary services,

- trucks of the Public Power Corporation, OTE telecoms company, the gas company, in the case that they are travelling to repair extraordinary damage to their networks and have the relevant documents,

- tanks carrying fuel for the vehicles of the fire service,

- trucks of the voluntary organization "The Smile of the Child",

- trucks carrying equipment for musical and theatrical performances,

- trucks carrying television equipment,

- trucks carrying oxygen for medical purposes,

- trucks used in emergencies following the request of the relevant civil defence office,

- vehicles carrying election materials if they have a permit,

- vehicles transporting supply goods for ferries that will travel abroad, if they have the relevant trade and customs documentation
