In the academic year which is about to start the Greek Prime Minister’s partner Peristera (Betty) Baziana will deliver lectures in the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the Engineering Faculty at the University of Western Macedonia.

Rector Antonis Tourlidakis confirmed the information disseminated by the local news website kozanimedia.gr, stating, "Indeed Mrs. Peristera Baziana submitted an application within the extra staff recruitment procedure. Her application was evaluated by the relevant commission and the formal competition procedure followed afterwards."

He added, "Her application was for lecturing in the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the Engineering Faculty and because actually she has all the necessary skills we have offered her the job. She is already aware of this and is ready to start. Mrs. Baziana should come and begin her lectures next week at the latest."

Alexis Tsipras’ partner graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Technology of Patras University where she took part in a research programme for the development of an application for telemedicine and began her doctoral dissertation.

According to her biography on Wikipedia, in the course of the dissertation Baziana was in conflict with her supervisor, and accused him of stealing her intellectual work as well as her salaries. In 2003, she initiated legal proceedings against him and won the case, and her lawyer was present chairperson of parliament Zoe Konstantopoulou. The topic of her dissertation was "Management architecture and transmission techniques for WDM optical networks optimization." Professor Limberopoulos, who was her supervisor, allegedly appealed against the decision of the first instance court in Patras that rehabilitated him. According to the decision, Peristera Baziana was obliged to pay him compensation of 8,000 euro for defamation.
