Two policemen were wounded after a shootout in a suburb of Athens

An armed attack in which three people were injured took place in the Athens suburb of Pevki.

According to initial information from police sources, a call for verification of suspicious persons was received in the police shortly after 7 pm.

A police patrol headed to the crossing between the streets Epikourou and Eolou. At the time the police arrived unknown persons began to fire on them. The police officers responded to the fire.

Two policemen were injured during the shootout – one of them seriously, and one civilian, but it is not clear whether he is the suspect or a passing citizen.

Another man who took part in the shootout took advantage of the situation, got into the car and fled the place. He left the police car down the street. The gun of the one of the two policemen was found in the car.

Dozens of their colleagues are in the region to look for the attackers.

The two policemen and the civilian who were injured were taken to hospital. According to the initial information, the officers were shot in the chest and the condition of the one, who was shot twice, is serious. Three bullets were shot against the second officer, so he was taken directly into the surgical room.

The man, who is supposed to be one of the assailants, was wounded in the legs.
