Former finance minister Yannis Varoufakis put his parliament seat at the disposal of the Prime Minister. He is ready to quit parliament if Alexis Tsipras asks him to do so, or just drops a hint to that effect.
In a brief statement to parliament shortly after 9.00 am today, Yannis Varoufakis said he was against the vote on the new memorandum by this government. He added that he did not want to make life harder for the government in case it lost its parliamentary majority, which is why he openly voiced his position, as this is what "the Left should do."
A little later, during the roll-call vote, Yannis Varoufakis voted "against" the agreement for the third memorandum.
