Five days before the decisive vote on Sunday, when Greeks will have to choose their government for the next 4 years, the war for votes went to the rallies in villages and cities. PM Kostas Karamanlis went to several Aegean islands and socialist PASOK leader Georgios Papandreou send a message to all Greek citizens from his office in Athens.
“I believe in Greek’s maturity. Problems are not greeted with pleasant solutions, without a plan and with wishes,” said Kostas Karamanlis on his pre-election rally in Mitilini. The campaign of the New Democracy leader is under the slogan “Vote for responsibility”. “PASOK is not seeking for solutions to the problems. The only thing they are interested in is power. What they promise cannot happen. It leads to a dead-end street for the economy, which will cost a lot to the country,” also said the Prime Minister. The lack of clear program for decreasing public expenses and for the tax policy, is the main argument of New Democracy against their socialist opponent.
“We can change the destiny of Greece,” promises in a special address about equality of Greeks the socialist leader Georgios Papandreou. According to public opinion polls, his party is leading with 5% in front of New Democracy. If this lead is confirmed on the elections then this means that the socialists will be able to make an independent government. “We are looking forward. We want to create a country of right, prosperity and opportunities,” said also the socialist leader.
