For four hours the investigator and the Bulgarian interpreter waited for Nazif Ahmedov or Nikolay, as he is known, to testify in the murder of 4-year-old Ani Borisova. However, he did not respond to the invitation that the Greek authorities had sent and did not appear in court. According to lawyers, his behaviour will not have specific consequences, but it certainly is worsening his situation from the viewpoint of the investigating authorities.

The invitation to testify was sent to the district prosecutor's office in Gabrovo on 16 May, four days after the second testimony on the part of Ani’s father Stanislav Bakardjiev who is accused of her murder. Although it is classified, the judicial sources told GRReporter that Stanislav had hinted that Nikolay had helped him annihilate the child’s body and that he did not rule out the possibility of Nikolay having done something bad to Ani.

In addition, the father had refuted the testimony of his friend before the Greek authorities. To Nikolay’s allegations that Ani had been in a locked room Stanislav had replied that this was not true. "But even if the room was locked the bathroom key could unlock the door," he said.

In today's statements for the media, Stavros Georgiou, defender for Ani’s mother, said that only charges of committing a felony could bring Nazif Ahmedov to Greece. "We intend to consider the case file in depth and on the basis of the data about Nikolay’s nature and the various activities performed by him that can be derived from the testimony of the main accused and other witnesses. My client will certainly ask for a criminal persecution for complicity in murder to be launched against Nikolay in order for him to face the Greek law and account for his actions."

Georgiou added that he was aware of the testimony of Stanislav Bakardjiev but declined to comment on it. "I am familiar with the documentation but I would not like to say anything. The fact is that he accuses Nikolay (Nazif Ahmedov) of many things."

According to sources, the defenders for Ani’s mother Dimitrina Borisova and father Stanislav Bakardjiev will require that their clients be subject to a cross-examination with Nazif Ahmedov.
