The only Greek yarn designing and producing company organized the first European Plexi Fashion party in Athens. It lasted four days and was open to all who wished to be aware of the latest trends in knitwear. Visitors had the opportunity to enter the world of yarn and other materials used in knitting. The patterns that are published in the Plexi Fashion magazine were live ''guests'' of a special fashion show.
Here is a glimpse into history. The popularity of knitwear in the West increased during the 1920s. Knitted clothes, especially sweaters become part of the new fashion for men, women and children. At that time, knitwear became associated with sports and comfort. Haute couture also embraced knitwear and Coco Chanel included it in her works whereas Vogue magazine presented them. In the 1980s, however, there was a sharp decline in the popularity of knitwear. Selling knitting patterns and yarn was considered old-fashioned, and children were rarely taught how to knit at school. In the 21st century the trend is now back again and this is due mostly to the Internet that allows knitters to communicate, share with each other and learn from one another wherever they are in the world.
Plexi Fashion organized this exhibition-party precisely to show young people how easy it is to make yourself the clothes that you like. "I would like to emphasize that not all is about knitting. We want to reveal female creativity. We want a girl who comes here and likes a particular garment to learn how to sew it before leaving," said event organizer George Hatzidakis. The exhibition revealed the secret of the alleged difficulties in knitting with yarn, showing young people how easy it is to make yourself something beautiful in less than ten minutes.
Therefore, the venue of the exhibition was the central Syntagma Square in Athens, the central meeting point of the city, in order for the people to find it easily and if they had not heard about it to visit it at that moment. Visitors to the exhibition were thousands and there was always a huge queue in front of the cash desk because almost everyone who had come to see the exhibition bought yarn, materials or a magazine. Visitors were of all ages and both sexes and according to the organizers, thousands in number.
Plexi Fashion party presented to the audience all new techniques for creating clothing and accessories by knitting, different types of yarn including the new series of eco-friendly easy knit yarns for easy knitting and yarn for knitting with hands, not with knitting needles. Everyone could buy materials from the stands that were arranged near the exhibition.
Plexi Fashion company is a hand knitting yarn wholesaler and retailer. It is the only Greek yarn producer and pattern designer whereas the rest are imported from different countries. Plexi Fashion’s latest ideas include polymorphic clothes that can be worn in many different ways and easy knit for the knitting of simple but very colourful works.
The interest in knitting was so great that women from all over Athens had appointments with acquaintances at each underground station in order to visit together the Plexi Fashion show.
