A man, aged 30, is threatening to blow himself up in front of the White Tower in Thessaloniki, arguing that there is a hand grenade in his pocket and he is going to blow himself up. The police are at the scene and attempting to talk to the man. So far, there has been no information about the reasons for his actions.

Thessaloniki police reported that an operative officer had very closely approached the 30-year-old man who had asked for a cigarette. In the past, the man had been treated in a psychiatric hospital. He still cannot clearly explain why he wants to commit suicide but he said, "I want to clear my name."

The traffic along the seafront is normal. The police are restricting the movement of pedestrians around the White Tower. There are ambulances at the scene too.
