The referendum was supported by the MPs of SYRIZA, the Independent Greeks and Golden Dawn; those from New Democracy, Potami, PASOK and the Communist Party rejected it.
According to the columnist Paschos Mandravelis, the referendum decision was taken hastily, the case for it has not been properly made, and its deadline is outrageously tight.
Immediately after the meeting, ministers set the pitch of the cabinet’s campaign in favour of rejecting the agreement. None of them however bothered to make clear whether the real question is "for or against staying in the Eurozone".
