From the end of August the metro destination to the airport will reopen and meanwhile the rest construction works on the new station Nomizmatokopio, which will start working by the end of September, the latest.
Finally passengers will be able to travel to the center from the airport by using only the blue or the third line of the metro, which were stopped since last February. Because of this, until now passengers had to get off at the Ministry of Defense station and from there to take the bus to the airport. The metro was stopped, because the construction of three additional stations on the way to the airport had started - Nomizmatokopio, Holargos and Aghia Paraskevi.
When the metro stations after the Ministry of Defense are open in August, the metro will stop at Halandri and Doukisis Plakentias. The Holargos station, together with 360 parking spaces will open by the end of the year. Meanwhile, the Nomizmatokopio station parking lot will open with 630 spots and Aghia Paraskevi metro station will open by mid 2010.
The reopening of the regular metro routes to the airport will allow the revision of the bus routes and their gradual reduction towards the center. Georgios Pandemenos from the Public Transportation Organization met with the mayors of Halandri, Aghia Paraskevi, Papagou and Koropi and informed them about the plans of the organization to change the routes of 20 bus lines, which are servicing the neighborhoods Artemida, Palini, Gerakas and Holargos. The proposal is for their final stops to be at three metro stations on boulevard Mesogion – Katehaki, the Ministry of Defense and Nomizmatokopio.
