The Athens police is on high alert after bandits kidnapped a famous Greek cardiologist from his home last night. The drama took place at the doctor’s home in the Vari suburb. The family was asleep and not expecting anything when two unknown men got into the house around midnight. They tied the woman and the children, boy and a girl, gagged them, dag around the house and stole money, gold, and other valuables. The woman gave them 1800 Euros but they also took the TV, kitchen appliances and clothes. The bandits stayed in the house almost 3 hours and waited for the cardiologist to return. They ambushed, took him and ran away with the two family cars.
The wife of the doctor manages to untie herself around 4am, when she called the police and her brother. In the morning the police found both cars burnt – one was in the Northern suburb Ekali and the other one in the Southern Vouliagmeni. The police think that the two kidnappers had at least another two accomplices who waiting for them outside. According to witnesses the abductors forced the cardiologist to withdraw considerable amounts of money from banks, in which he had accounts. The search for the abducted doctor and his kidnappers continues.
Until now, the reasons for the abduction are unknown, because the bandits have not asked for a ransom yet. According to the doctor’s wife, the men were speaking Russian among themselves and to her in broken Greek. They were wearing hoods and the woman could not see their faces. Until not too long ago the family had a house maid from Georgia who left for home a week ago to see her family. According to the police’s judgment she is not involved with the case.
