Policemen will take psychological stability tests

A special commission of psychologists is created today, which will issue certificates for the psychological health of policemen after the incidents in Athens. This was announced in the parliament by the deputy-minister of internal affairs, who is responsible for the public order Hristos Markoyanakis. For now, the commission will take over the policemen working in Athens but similar commissions will be created also in Thessaloniki and other big cities. The deputy-minister also said that smaller police stations will be included in the program.

The decision to create a commission of psychologists was taken for less than a week after a policeman with a fear neurosis and on medication for depression shot two times at a bodyguard in front of the US ambassador’s house in Athens. It became known that the US embassy had asked the Greek authorities three times to dismiss the policeman because he had strange behavior but the no one did anything. The problem with the insufficient psychological support alerted everyone after the murder of the 16 year old Alexis Grigoropoulos, who dies out of a policeman’s bullet.

As grreporter.info already wrote, for 50 thousand policemen in Greece, there are only 5 psychologists and 7 out of every 10 policemen are not psychologically stable to carry a gun.
