The Greek government is going to announce as illegal wearing hoods and covering the face during protests. This became clear after today’s meeting of the Ministry Council, dedicated to the condition of prisons and securing public peace. “We are expecting a series of measures for improving the conditions in the different prisons as well as guaranteeing public order,” said the Justice Minister Nikos Dendias and also added: “those measures will prevent the use of hoods and everything else, which could hide a person’s face. Greek citizens do not hide behind masks and are not afraid to show their faces, especially when they protest.”
The Minister also said that the time limit of those temporarily arrested will decrease, because in Greece this limit is two-three times longer than in other EU countries. It is expected that with this measure much of the space in Greek prisons will be freed.
