Few weeks ago it became clear that the case of the Bulgarian, who was splashed with vitriol, will be closed, even though no investigation was done and the criminals are not found.

Ever since then, for the first time a Greek politician declared that Konstantina Kouneva’s file should not enter the archives but the witnesses should be questioned again. This was said by the chairman of the oppositional party SIRIZA Alekos Alavanos, after he met representatives of the Cleaners and House Maids Union. He also stressed that an answer is expected from the authorities about Kouneva’s case.

Mr. Alavanos also said that “we will not exaggerate if we said that the working conditions in the cleaning private and public sectors are for slaves. For instance, it is not possible for a cleaning lady working in The Red Cross to get ?600 for working three shifts and sleeping in the hospital. It is not possible for a cleaning lady to be working in the biggest hospital in Greece – Evangelismos, to be declared as being paid ?1700, to be doing a job worth ?1700 and to finally collect ?600.”

In order to try and solve the problem of the cleaners, Mr. Alavanos said that he will ask for a meeting with the labor minister Fani Petralya.
