The meeting was inspired by the protests in front of the Council of Ministers in Sofia, which had started in early June this year. The Bulgarians living in Greece expressed in this way their solidarity with the protesters in Bulgaria who refuse to be ruled by corrupt politicians serving private interests and who do not want to be dependent on a handful of oligarchs.
"They refused to give us the report to consider and discuss it," Zoe Konstantinopoulou, who is a member of the commission but she was not informed of the content of the official document, told GRReporter.
The inability of the Greek government to tackle tax evasion has turned the revenues from taxation of property into a major source of funds for the state treasury. The recent data suggest that the inhabited house duty and similar fees and charges should bring 5.4 billion euro to the budget.
